Ex-Sunderland striker Roy O'Donovan misses absolute sitter in A-League

Ex-Sunderland striker Roy O'Donovan misses absolute sitter in A-League

O'Donovan had been in productive shape this season – until everything turned out badly for him on Saturday

The Irish forward has scored seven objectives in six appearances for Newcastle Jets this crusade in the wake of joining from Central Coast Mariners in April.

In any case, in the 52nd moment of the Jets' conflict against Adelaide, the Irishman spurned a magnificent opportunity to give his side a two-objective pad.

With Newcastle as of now 2-1 up, O'Donovan locked onto Andrew Nabbout's unselfish go before objective. All the previous Football League understudy needed to do was tap the ball into an unfilled net – however rather he discharged his shot wide, much to the joy of Adelaide's help.

Yet: all finished well. Newcastle won 2-1 to go best of the A-League, yet their fans will trust O'Donovan won't be re-living his misfortunes in their enormous conflict against Sydney this end of the week.

Peterborough's Marcus Maddison embarrasses himself with awful playacting against AFC Wimbledon

Peterborough's Marcus Maddison embarrasses himself with awful playacting against AFC Wimbledon

Maddison tumbled to the ground lamentably after a totes episode with Liam Trotter

Peterborough drew 2-2 with AFC Wimbledon in League One on Sunday, yet their star man Maddison delivered the amusement's viral minute in undesirable form.

After he was decreed to have fouled Trotter, the Durham-conceived assailant clashed with the 29-year-old before disintegrating to the floor in a store.

Trotter had scarcely touched the Peterborough winger, however that didn't prevent his colleagues from going to his protection as a scuffle resulted.

Maddison and Trotter both got yellows for their parts in the showy behavior. After the diversion, AFC Wimbledon director Neil Ardley named the episode "humiliating".

"He will be humiliated when he [Maddison] sees it, when he watches it back. I don't concur with attempting to get a kindred player sent off," he disclosed to Sky Sports post-coordinate.

"To attempt to get somebody sent off is frustrating. It's not what we need in the diversion.

"There was no chance that anybody endeavored to toss a head at each other, they were simply no holds barred giving each other the eyeballs... satchels at 10 paces."

Maddison helped Danny Lloyd's equalizer for Peterborough, at that point scored from the spot himself to put the Posh 2-1 ahead. Be that as it may, Cody McDonald struck an equalizer on the stroke of half-time for Wimbledon, who stay in the League One assignment zone.

Have Manchester United found the answer to their biggest problem?

Have Manchester United found the answer to their biggest problem?

Are United ready for the new season?

Six wins out of seven in the pre-season matches and Manchester United have been solid rather than spectacular.

But they have been scoring goals and that was the major problem in the league last season which cost them a place in the top four.
New players like Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof have been in since day one of the warm-up period but while Nemanja Matic is in catch-up mode, he looked the kind of buy United's midfield needed against Sampdoria on his Reds debut.

His defensive foundation should help the attackers attack.

Real Madrid have two Spanish Super Cup matches against Barcelona coming up before their La Liga opener on August 20 against Deportivo La Coruna.

Real are behind United in match fitness having only played four warm-ups so far but this will the biggest barometer yet of the Reds' qualities.
Gareth Bale can post a message to Mourinho

We've had the David de Gea to Madrid stories and the brief, spurious teasers that Cristiano Ronaldo could return to United.

Now the issue is Gareth Bale.
United have been encouraged by some of the reports coming out of Spain but knocked back by the Welsh international's agent who says he wants to stay at the Bernabeu.

The cooling of the Ivan Perisic pursuit has got hopes up that a move for Bale is the priority.

He has had an ankle injury but could play in Skopje. Even if he cannot send a message on the pitch there could the chance for some dialogue between the two clubs.
pre-season so he'll surely want one final look at his strongest team against the Spaniards.

And if he wants that piece of silverware at the expense of the European champions then he'll have to show his hand.
Can Romelu Lukaku can put down a Euro marker?

United's £75m summer buy from Everton is proven in the Premier League. We know he can overpower and outwit defences in England.

But United also want to put in a credible challenge on their return to the Champions League this season and the Belgian's goals are going to be crucial.

United's No.9 has not had a taste of the group stages on the top European stage and facing the likes of Sergio Ramos and Rafael Varane in Skopje will be an early indicator of how he will cope with the next level.

Paul Pogba drops shock transfer hint after Manchester United defeat to Barcelona

Paul Pogba drops shock transfer hint after Manchester United defeat to Barcelona

Paul Pogba has made Manchester United fans very anxious after ‘liking’ an Instagram post that suggested he should leave Old Trafford and join Barcelona instead.
The French midfielder was one of United’s better performers in Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to Barca in Maryland, and was pictured laughing and joking with the Catalan club’s stars afterwards.
Many assumed ‘Agent Pogba’ was up to his old tricks as he chatted to Neymar and Lionel Messi, but now it seems as though, if they were discussing any possible transfer, it might have been Pogba to Camp Nou.
Pogba and the rest of the United squad have only just touched back down in England after their pre-season tour, with the 24-year-old seemingly catching up on his social media in the evening.
And late on Thursday night he liked a comment that read: ‘Pogba to Barca in the the [sic] next couple of years?’
Understandably, Pogba’s actions have not gone down well with United fans, who are fearing the possibility of having to say goodbye to their star midfielder for a second time after he left the club to join Juventus five years ago.
Barca were interested in Pogba prior to his move to Old Trafford last summer, as were a host of top European clubs including Real Madrid, though Jose Mourinho convinced him to return to the Theatre of Dreams.

Talking transfers? Neymar could soon eclipse Pogba as the world’s most expensive player (Picture: MUTV)
His curious social media activity comes just a single day after Mourinho had put Pogba on the same level as Messi and Neymar following his display against Barca.

‘Messi and Neymar, there is only one; there is not two. [Luis] Suarez, [Andres] Iniesta, [Gerard] Pique, [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Gareth] Bale, [Luka] Modric, Toni Kroos; there is only one so they can only play for one club, not for two clubs.
‘We can’t have them; they belong to the clubs. But I have to say that one of my players today, Paul Pogba; he showed the level, he showed he belongs to that level.’
Some fans had hoped Pogba was chatting to Neymar about joining United, with the Brazilian seemingly desperate to escape Messi’s shadow, though he appears destined to join PSG if he does leave the club this summer.

Manchester City thrash Real Madrid 4-1 in Los Angeles as Danilo makes debut

Manchester City thrash Real Madrid 4-1 in Los Angeles as Danilo makes debut

Manchester City thrashed Real Madrid 4-1 in Los Angeles as defender Danilo made his debut against his former club.

The 26-year-old Brazil international started at left-back having signed for a fee believed to be £26.5m.

After a goalless first-half Nicolas Otamendi fired in a rebound from a John Stones header to break the deadlock.
Kevin de Bruyne controlled the game for the Premier League side as goals from Raheem Sterling, Stones and 17-year-old Brahim Diaz sealed victory.

In front of 93,000 fans at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Pep Guardiola's side secured their first pre-season win with an impressive attacking display against the Spanish giants.

The Manchester club have spent almost £175m this summer - England international Kyle Walker (£45m), Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva (£43m), Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson Moraes (£35m) and most recently defender Benjamin Mendy (£52m) having all joined Guardiola's ranks.

But despite the influx of defenders, it was City's attacking play that saw them to an easy victory as De Bryune set up three goals.

The Belgian flicked a deft pass pass through to Sterling, before picking out defender Stones for his goal, and then linking up with Spanish teenager Diaz, who scored with a superb strike from outside the area.

Madrid pulled one back with the last effort of the game - a stunning goal from Oscar Rodriguez - but City were the dominant side.

Guardiola played down his side's victory but praised their intensity saying "at that level we can compete with everyone".

On new signing Mendy, he said: "Mendy and Gundogan are not ready yet. Mendy needs two or three more weeks due to a muscle injury. David Silva will be fit for the start of the season though."

United end tour with defeat
Manchester United ended their pre-season tour of the United States with defeat by Barcelona - a game that manager Jose Mourinho said "was important to lose".

Barcelona secured a 1-0 win with a first-half goal from Neymar at the International Champions Cup in Washington - United's first pre-season defeat.

Neymar, who also scored twice in Barcelona's 2-1 friendly win over Juventus on Saturday, has been linked with a move to Paris St-Germain and the French club have reportedly met the Brazilian's 222m euro (£199m) release clause.
But the 25-year-old ignored the ongoing speculation and capitalised on United full-back Antonio Valencia's mistake in the 31st minute before being taken off at half-time.

Barcelona would have been out of sight in the first half but for a string of fine saves from United goalkeeper David de Gea.

"I think it would be very bad for us to leave the US without a defeat, playing against teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City - it would be very bad to go home with just victories," said Mourinho.

Manchester United now face Norwegian side Valerenga on Sunday before playing Italians Sampdoria in their final pre-season match in Dublin on Wednesday.

They meet Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup on 8 August.

Real Madrid's efforts in signing Kylian Mbappe give Manchester United encouragement in signing Gareth Bale

Real Madrid's efforts in signing Kylian Mbappe give Manchester United encouragement in signing Gareth Bale

Manchester United have received encouragement in signing Gareth Bale from Real Madrid this summer as the Champions League winners continue their pursuit of AS Monaco star Kylian Mbappe.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Spanish capital club are keen on securing the services of Mbappe. The 18-year-old scored 26 goals and registered eight assists across all competitions as Monaco went on to win the title for the first time since 2000.
Real are not the only club interested in signing the France international. United's local rivals Manchester City are also believed to be in the race in landing the teenager. Pep Guardiola's side have already made an initial bid of £143m ($186.2m) for the attacker.
The 12-time European champions are keen on bringing Mbappe to Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window. They have already allowed James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata to leave the club as they joined Bayern Munich and Chelsea respectively.

Zinedine Zidane admitted that he has not urged the club to bring in a player to replace Morata at Real. However, the La Liga winners are keen on beating City in securing Mbappe's signature and they need to raise funds to land the forward.

Real will sanction Bale's sale to United and will use the funds from the Welshman's sale to the Red Devils in signing the Monaco man. The 20-time English champions manager Jose Mourinho admitted that United's pursuit of Bale was long over after the player decided to stay with his current employers.

The situation is likely to change as Real look to sanction Bale's sale to fund Mbappe's transfer. The Portuguese tactician has publicly expressed his desire to sign an attacking player, despite signing Romelu Lukaku earlier in the window.

The possibility of Bale leaving Real is also being discussed in Spain. According to Cadena Ser, Real and Mbappe have agreed that four players – Mbappe, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale – can be at the club at the same time.
The French striker wants assurances of regular playing time under Zidane and will only move to Spain if one of Bale, Ronaldo or Benzema is sold. The former Tottenham Hotspur star could be the one who would be allowed to leave this summer.

Mbappe has also warned Real that if they fail to sign him this summer, he will not join them a year later. Real are looking to agree personal terms with the player as they believe it will make their task easier in agreeing a fee with Monaco.

Should Bale decide to leave Real for United, he is likely to become the latter's third summer signing. Mourinho's side have already completed deals for Victor Lindelof and Lukaku as the two arrived at Old Trafford from Benfica and Everton respectively.

Diego Costa Banned From Training, Management Promises That He Will Never Play For Chelsea Again

Diego Costa Banned From Training, Management Promises That He Will Never Play For Chelsea Again
Diego Costa Banned From Training, Management Promises That He Will Never Play For Chelsea Again.

Chelsea’s star player – Diego Costa – has been banned from the training grounds by manager Antonio Conte and has been told by the club’s management that he won’t play for Chelsea again.
Recall that Costa told the club he wanted to leave three times in the last ten months; the first time was during last year’s pre-season tour when he asked to return to Atletico Madrid, his former club. Chelsea’s manager – Conte, responded by benching him for two friendlies. The second time was in January when Costa made it clear he wanted the mega-money move to Chinese club, Tianjin Quanjian in January while third time was at the end of the season.
Now with the 70 million Pounds capture of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, Conte has banished Costa from first team training and its now clear the Spanish striker will leave the club as soon as possible. Costa is not on the club’s pre-season tour squad and has been granted extended leave so he can conclude a deal with former club, Atletco Madrid.
‘In January, the Costa situation was made very clear,’ said Conte, speaking for the first time since his infamous post-season text-message exchange with the striker.

‘For the club, for him and his agent and for me the situation is closed.’

24 year old Morata, Diego Costa’s replacement, completed his move on Friday is set to join up with the Chelsea squad in Singapore.

‘This is a good signing for us,’ said Conte. ‘Morata is a young player but he has a lot of experience and played in the past with Real Madrid and Juventus in the league and the Champions League.

‘He’s a good striker, a player with the right prospects for Chelsea.’

Diego Costa was Chelsea’s top scorer with 20 goals last season.

Man Utd Close-In On Deal To Sign this player for £40million

Man Utd Close-In On Deal To Sign this player for £40million
Man Utd Close-In On Deal To Sign this player for £40million.

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is close to joining Man Utd…
Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is close to securing a move to Manchester United after Juventus turned their attention to other targets, according to a report in the Express.
Matic is expected to leave the Premier League champions following the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco and he was left out of Chelsea’s pre-season tour squad to allow him to resolve his future.

The Serbian international has been strongly linked with both Man Utd and Juventus but the Mirror reported recently that the Red Devils moved in to pole position after the Serie A champions baulked at Chelsea’s £40m asking price.

The Express are now citing a report from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio who claims Matic wants to join United is now on the verge of securing his moving to Old Trafford.

It’s stated in the newspaper that Juventus have conceded defeat in the race to sign Matic and have now turned their attention to landing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi instead.

Jose Mourinho has vented his frustration at United’s lack of movement in the transfer market as they’ve only managed to wrap-up deals to sign centre-back Victor Lindelof and striker Romelu Lukaku so far.

The Portuguese coach is looking to bring in a central midfielder to act as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick and it seems Mourinho is on the verge of a reunion with Matic.
The ‘Special One’ re-signed the 28-year-old for Chelsea back in 2014 and he played a key role in helping them win the title that season so it seems Mourinho is hoping he’ll have the same affect in Manchester.
Mourinho seemingly believes Matic will be the perfect foil for Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba in his United midfield this season and I think he’ll be an excellent addition if they manage to get this proposed deal over the line.

Romelu Lukaku says he wants to create his own history at Manchester United

Romelu Lukaku says he wants to create his own history at Manchester United
Romelu Lukaku says he wants to create his own history at Manchester United

The Belgium striker, 24, joined the Red Devils for £75m earlier this month, after scoring 25 Premier League goals for Everton last season.

Lukaku, the first foreign player to score 80 Premier League goals before his 24th birthday, said: "I can't say I'm the complete package.

"There is a lot of work to be done and I'm delighted that there is as it means I can become even better than I am."

Lukaku's move to United means he is reunited with Jose Mourinho, who was manager of Chelsea when they sold the forward to Everton for £28m in July 2014.

Last week, Mourinho was asked to compare Lukaku to Didier Drogba, who scored 157 goals in 341 appearances during his first spell at Chelsea, winning three Premier League titles and the Champions League.

The Portuguese said: "I don't compare, I don't compare at all. One has his history and one is still in the beginning of his history."

Lukaku said he and Drogba were "totally different players".

He told BBC Sport: "Drogba is more of a hold-up player, a target man. I prefer to have ball to feet and run in behind.

"I'm Romelu Lukaku, I want to create my own history."
Mourinho - not Pogba - the decisive factor

Before Lukaku's move to United was confirmed, Red Devils midfielder Paul Pogba posted pictures on social media of him and the Belgian together.

The Frenchman, who moved back to Old Trafford for a world record fee of £89m last summer, also referred to himself as 'Agent P'.

Lukaku said: "We were just on holiday together. I had to make my own choices."

Chelsea also bid £75m for Lukaku, and there had been suggestions he and Mourinho did not get on.

But the forward says the manager's vision was the decisive factor in him moving to Manchester.

He said: "The conversation I had with the manager really convinced me the most. He told me of his plans, about how he wanted to rebuild the club, and wanted me to be part of it.

"He is a manager who has always had a lot of belief in me and I believe in his methods.

"It is going to be good to work together again."
'I've been working since I was 11'

Lukaku was 16 and still at school when he made his professional debut for Belgian club Anderlecht.

Just a year later he finished top scorer and won the league title.

Lukaku moved to Chelsea when he was 18 but made only 15 appearances for them before joining Everton, initially on loan.

Five years later he is the fifth most expensive player ever, and has scored at least 15 league goals in four of the past five seasons.

He said: "I've been working to be a pro since I was 11 years old. I've always had a goal to win as many trophies as I can and to play for a club like Manchester United.

"I want to grab this opportunity."

Lukaku in stats

With two goals against Hull City in March, Lukaku became the first Everton player since Gary Lineker in 1985-86 to score 20 league goals in a season.

Lukaku is also only the fourth player to score more than 80 goals in the Premier League before turning 24 - after England internationals Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Wayne Rooney.

He has scored more goals than any other Everton player in Premier League history (68).

Lukaku is one of only three players to have scored more than 10 goals in each of the past five Premier League seasons, along with Olivier Giroud and Sergio Aguero.

World's most expensive transfers

Jose Mourinho says he didn't choose his best penalty kickers against Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho says he didn't choose his best penalty kickers against Real Madrid
Jose Mourinho says he didn't choose his best penalty kickers against Real Madrid

Manchester United beat the reigning European champions in a pre-season encounter in the States by virtue of penalties.

Nothing separated the two sides after 90 minutes following their 1-1 draw with Casemiro levelling after Jesse Lingard’s opener.

And in the shoot-out, only three of the 10 spot-kicks from United and Real were converted.

Amongst the takers for United were new boy Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial, who all missed from 12 yards out.
And when asked for his thoughts on the shoot-out, Mourinho said: “Three out of 10 penalties - that's pre-season.

“I didn't choose my best penalty takers.”

When quizzed on what his wider thoughts on the game were, Mourinho took a slightly critical tone over the second-half display.

He added: “It was a good training session.
“A very good first half against a top Real side. In the second half we lost motivation, intensity and appetite to play against their youngsters.

“The players in the second half were disappointed not to play against their best players.”

Manchester United will take on Real again in the Super Cup on August 8.

Once again, Man Utd has proven to be the best by defeating Real Madrid

Once again, Man Utd has proven to be the best by defeating Real Madrid
Jesse Lingard gave United the lead against Real in a game that will be repeated in the European Super Cup on 8 August
Manchester United beat Real Madrid on penalties after their pre-season game finished 1-1 in Santa Clara.

Anthony Martial created Jesse Lingard's first-half opener for United with a brilliant piece of skill on the left.

Casemiro levelled for Real from the penalty spot after United's new £31m defender Victor Lindelof brought down Theo Hernandez with a rash challenge.
Seven out of 10 penalties were missed in the shootout, with Casemiro's wild effort ensuring United edged it 2-1.

It was not a great night for Lindelof, who compounded his error during the game with a miss from the spot.

Another negative for United was Ander Herrera lasting only six minutes before going off with a hip injury.

They have now won all four of their matches in the United States and meet Barcelona in their final tour game in Washington on Wednesday.

Wales forward Gareth Bale started for Real in their first pre-season game.

They play Manchester City in Los Angeles on Wednesday before meeting Barcelona in Miami on Saturday.

Martial the mystery

Much of the noise around France forward Martial this summer has centred around him potentially being used as bait to lure Ivan Perisic to Manchester United from Inter Milan.

Considering Martial is 21 - seven years younger than Croatia winger Perisic - it would seem a strange move for United manager Jose Mourinho to agree to.

But Martial has had a largely inconsistent two years at Old Trafford and former United defender Gary Neville said in January the player needed to "realise his potential".

Watching him weave past Luka Modric and Dani Carvajal, then roll a pass to Lingard for United's opener as Raphael Varane closed in, it was easy to see why Mourinho's predecessor, Louis van Gaal, sanctioned his £36m transfer two years ago.

Those are the sparks Martial must show more often.

The quiet number 10

It says a lot about midfielder Modric that, despite being one of the quiet men at Real Madrid, he has been given the number 10 shirt this season following the departure of James Rodriguez to Bayern Munich.

There is more than one way to make a noise though.

Modric does not pout or posture. He simply plays, simply.

He seems to see passes half a second before anyone else. And then he delivers them, accurately.

The former Tottenham player was only involved for 45 minutes at the Levi's Stadium, but on three occasions he found team-mates with passes which, if they had been a bit sharper, they might have profited from.

Shambolic shootout
