Manchester United are reportedly lining up a move for RB Leipzig’s Emil Forsberg after admitting defeat in the pursuit of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic. The Sweden international starred for Leipzig during their maiden Bundesliga campaign as they finished runners-up to Bayern Munich.
United boss Jose Mourinho has already revealed his intention to add a central midfielder and winger to his ranks, but the club have so far been unsuccessful in their quest to pursue their prime targets. Perisic had been underlined as the preferred choice to bolster the wing position, but the Nerazzurri’s £44.6m asking price has put them off from reviving their interest.

According to Calciomercato, Mourinho has now set his sights on pursuing Forsberg, who shares the same agent as United summer signing Victor Lindelof. The Red Devils have already made contact with the player’s representative with the manager keen on completing most of his transfer business ahead of the new season.

Forsberg assisted 19 goals in addition to his eight scored in the Bundesliga last term, and this presents a far better record than Perisic’s tally of 11 goals and eight assists. The Swede’s haul of 19 assists is also the highest in Europe’s top five leagues one ahead of Manchester City ace Kevin de Bruyne.

Leipzig have been reluctant to lose their key players during the course of the transfer window, but United could test their resolve with a £44.6m offer – similar to that Inter Milan are demanding – given he is nearly three years younger than Perisic.
